He graduated with a bachelors degree in jazz studies from the prestigious Capilano college.
Upon graduation he recieved a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts
to study tabla at the Ustad Allah Rakha Institute of Music in Mumbai.
He's always had this long standing relationship with his favourite Indian percussion instrument the tabla
and has studied under the tutelage of Ustad Zakhir Hussain.
So far Neal has had the fortunate opportunity to work with some great names in jazz
such as Bob Mintzer, Kurt Elling, Nenna Freelon and Cedar Walton.
